Spatial data support, built on industry standards, is included in the SQL Anywhere Server engine, the UltraLite mobile database, the MobiLink synchronization server, and some of the administration tools.
One of the significant new features in SQL Anywhere 12 is built-in support for 2D and 3D spatial data, including spatial data types, spatial indices and geographic computations. Spatial data support, built on industry standards, is included in the SQL Anywhere Server engine, the UltraLite mobile database, the MobiLink synchronization server, and some of the administration tools. This makes Sybase the only vendor to enable development of data-driven spatial applications for leading smartphone devices and synchronize the on-device data with spatial databases, application servers and enterprise systems.
SQL Anywhere is a long standing leader in providing data management and synchronization technologies designed to operate in mobile and embedded environments without regular on-site IT maintenance. Some of the new spatial data capabilities include:
Support for spatial data types, indices and APIs following the OGC and SQLMM standards
Native import for shape files and built in functions to export to KML, GML and SVG formats
Use of spatial data on all of the platforms supported by SQL Anywhere, from Linux, Unix, Mac OS, Windows, BlackBerry, iPhone and Windows Mobile
Bi-directional synchronization of spatial and standard data between field worker and many popular enterprise systems
